Blockchain Will Benefit the Growing Number of Gamers That Are Spending More Time In-Game

According to a report by Ofcom, a government-approved media regulator in the United Kingdom, the number of children aged 5-15 that play video games online has risen substantially from about 66% in 2017 to 75% in 2018. What does this trend and similar industry stats mean for gaming? Industry experts have weighed in, blockchain is going to change the way players are monetized for spending time in-game. See what the experts have to say:
Can Blockchain Help Players Spending More Time In-Game?
That’s one of the questions our panelists for the discussion “Gaming, eSports & Entertainment on the Blockchain” are curious about. On Wednesday, April 10 at LA Blockchain Summit in Los Angeles, you will see four dynamic panelists discuss topics related to blockchain, gaming, eSports, and many others. The panelists include Shea Newkirk of Cryptostach, Dan Fleyshman of Elevator.Studio, Aleksander Dyo of Token IQ, and Chase Hero of The Nexus Group.
Gaming is becoming more ubiquitous with more people gaming now than ever before. The way that players value their time in-game is changing, and the industries will change to meet this trend. One of the panelists from the upcoming discussion, Shea Newkirk, commented on the topic.
“Gaming has gone mainstream and people are spending more and more time “in-game”. I think the introduction of blockchain & crypto into gaming is going to give more control over not only our digital assets, but also over the value of our time in a game as a whole. We could even see game based jobs through crypto payments and blockchain verifiable tasks for payment!”
Collectively and individually, the eSports, gaming and blockchain industries have been on fire lately. The announcement of the hemisphere’s largest eSports arena coming to Philadelphia has made experts increasingly confident that eSports is here to stay in the United States. Blockchain will only catalyze this growing phenomenon and change the way players get paid.
“eSports are coming to the blockchain as well and I think that we will see a huge surge in this general area. While current major eSports tournaments for games like LoL & Fortnite payout in currencies like USD, they will pay in their native crypto token,” Newkirk said.
Subscription-Based Gaming
Another current topic that might be discussed is how subscription-based gaming will affect the industry. Dan Fleyshman, Founder of Elevator.Studio, sees the subscription-based gaming model as an enhanced gaming experience without the solicitation.
“Subscription-based gaming is the natural transition for the Esports space, as more and more sponsors plaster their logos on every inch of the industry, the paid subscription model allows for fans to watch, experience & enjoy ad-free content,” Fleyshman said.
